Who else wants a sweet treat on occasion (or, every day - who am I kidding!) Well next time you're looking for one, are at home, want something small and sweet but healthy(er) - try this recipe out! It's only 4 ingredients (with a few optional add-ins for an additional nutrient boost) and sooo good, I promise!
Check the recipe out below, try it and share a photo with me over on instagram
Why try it this quick healthy (and paleo) dessert:
Super easy ad quick (5 minutes to mix + freeze time)
Paleo friendly
Made with healthy and functional ingredients that are known to have multiple nutritional/health benefits - see below!
Made with completely clean / whole / real food ingredients (no weird stuff!)
You can control how sweet you make it and what you add into it - my recent fave is adding collagen peptides and sea salt
If you follow a paleo or clean eating lifestyle - you probably already have the ingredients in your pantry!
FitTip: portion it out! I cut it into tiny squares, keep it in the freezer, and grab a small piece when I want one. Warning - you may need to double the recipe!
4 Ingredient Dark Chocolate Recipe
..
The basic recipe:
1/2 c. Coconut oil (I have also done 1/4 c. oil and 1/4 c. Natural unsweetened almond or peanut butter )
1/4 c. - 1/2 c. Raw honey or pure maple syrup (I do half and half)
1/2 c. - 3/4 c. Cacao powder
1 tsp. Vanilla
(Optional add ins)
1 t. maca powder
1-2 scoops collagen peptides (completely flavorless)
crushed almonds, cashews, walnuts
Mix up, pour into square dish and chill until solid.
The functional ingredients:
I try to incorporate as many functional a.k.a "superfood" (super nutrient dense, providing extra health benefits / serve a purpose other than taste) ingredients into my foods as I can. In addition to the coconut oil, and honey - that provide more well known benefits from their healthy fats, antioxidant properties, etc. - cacao powder, maca, and collagen are a few others I love to use in smoothies, baking and more for these benefits:
Cacao powder - fiber, magnesium, Vitamin C, Potassium
maca powder - Incan superfood / adaptogen (known to aid your body's natural ability to deal with stress - adapt to what your body needs in the given moment) also known for energy balance, hormone balance, fiber, potassium, calcium
Collagen - protein source that is also great for hair, skin, nails and gut, may help to balance blood sugar after eating something high in carbs/sugar (may help avoid the sugar spike/crash)
